This video shows that the Florida Park Service plan to close Wild Waters at the end of the 2016 season.
Don’t be fooled by the comment at the end of the video about building another Water Park in another location. There are no such plans.
There was no need for Wild Waters to be closed. It’s simply the preference of uncaring, self serving bureaucrats who stated they wanted to use the property for a more “Park Like Setting”… who don’t care what the public wants.
In the above video, Silver Springs Park Manager Sally Lieb states; “You’ve got the State Park, the Greenway & trails, and there’s the huge national forests, so we want that corner to represent that and having the water park there doesn’t give anybody that feeling when their heading in that direction”.
This is the REAL reason they destoyed our Water Park. They have stated in public records that “State officials have come to see it as an eyesore” and it’s “not part of the Park Service mission”.
These type of comments prove they are personally biased against Wild Waters and wanted it gone for their own personal reasons.
The ultimate purpose of Florida State Officials should be to serve the people. Plans to eliminate Wild Waters are in direct opposition to what the people want.

Don’t let anyone get away with trying to tell you that Wild Waters “outlived it’s useful life” and needed to be torn down.
As mentioned in the Star Banner article “Wild Waters days are numbered”, the proposed changes to Silver Springs which the Park Service wants to make will run between $15 million and $20 million, so if there’s that kind of money available for Silver Springs, then there was plenty of money available to restore and preserve Wild Waters.
If they try and tell you Wild Waters was losing money or isn’t profitable, just remember that there are over 12,000 golf courses in the state of Florida but very few Water Parks. Some of the golf courses are tax payer subsidized and they don’t have to be profitable to continue operating. Millions are spent on the Park Service every year and parks don’t have to be profitable.
Don’t let anyone on the list below cut you off. Be persistent and make them listen to your message. If necessary, tell them you pay their salaries so you demand that your message be heard.
Here’s a few points you can make if you want, but you don’t have to use any of this if you’d rather say in your own words how you feel.
1. Over 3,000 people signed a petition to save Wild Waters and State officials ignored the petition.
2. The people have spoken and they want Wild Waters to stay. We do not want “swimming in the main springs” as a forced substitute.
3. Opening swimming in the main springs would infringe upon the wildlife which inhabit the springs. Also, since snakes, alligators and other wildlife inhabit the springs, there is no way to guarantee they will not harm humans who are infringing on their natural habitat.
It would be much better to spend money on Wild Waters, than waste it on a Park Swimming Hole that no one wants, and which would infringe on Wild Life.
4. Since Wild Waters is owned by the State of Florida, Wild Waters is owned by Florida citizens.
5. Florida citizens pays every Florida State Official’s salary so the citizens are their boss and they should be doing what the citizens want.
6. Florida state officials have ignored requests to put Wild Waters on the ballot so people could vote on keeping Wild Waters.
7. Florida officials ignoring the wishes of the citizens of this state and refusing to let the people vote on keeping our Water Park goes against everything democracy is supposed to stand for.
You will note that some of the people listed below has “Advisory Group Member” by their name. Per the Star Banner article, “Silver Springs Advisory Group Recommends Closing Wild Waters“ it was the Silver Springs Advisory Group which recommended closing Wild Waters.
Those listed below with “Advisory Group Member” by their name is directly responsible by recommending that Wild Waters be closed at the end of the 2016 season.
Keep in mind that as a taxpayer you pay every one of these people’s salaries so you are their boss and they are supposed to be working for you.

Governor Rick Scott is responsible for the loss of our Water Park, jobs and the degradation of entertainment at Silver Springs.
Palace Entertainment had been managing Silver Springs & Wild Waters since 2002. Governor Rick Scott let Palace Entertainment out of their contract in 2013 which was supposed to run until 2029. He then put Wild Waters & Silver Springs under the control of the Florida Park Service and Department of Environmental Protection. This has turned out to be a huge mistake for the people in central Florida.
Since the State of Florida took over Silver Springs park, they eliminated the small zoo, the animal shows, rides like the safari ride, boat rides, kids attractions and more. As a result, there is barely anything left worth going to Silver Springs to see.
Eliminating attractions at Silver Springs was only the beginning. Next Florida Park Service / EPA bureaucrats decided to eliminate our Water Park, Wild Waters.
The contract of Palace Entertainment, the company which was managing Silver Springs and Wild Waters was not due to expire until 2029. If Governor Scott had not let Palace Entertainment out of their contact, Wild Waters would have continued to operate until at least 2029.
After releasing Palace Entertainment from their contract which would have ran until 2029, Governor Scott should have made sure Wild Waters was preserved until at least 2029 for the people in Central Florida.
Governor Rick Scott pretends to be responsible for creating jobs in Florida. Closing Wild Waters will cause the loss of over 60 summer jobs, many which are filled by young people. That doesn’t seem to bother him one bit.
In June of 2014, a copy of the petition signed by over 3,000 people was sent to Governor Rick Scott and we received no response. Numerous people has called and written him letters asking him to make sure Wild Waters is preserved. He has not had the decency to respond or do anything to stand up for the people in Central Florida.
Letters, calls has been made and copies of the petition has been sent to Governor Rick about all of the issues on this website regarding Wild Waters and he has continued to do nothing.

Details: The Director of Park Services, Mr. Donald Forgione received a copy of the petition. He sent exact copy emails to people who complained about plans to close Wild Waters claiming that it had “reached the end of it’s useful life”.
This is yet anther excuse bureaucrats are using. The real reason they want Wild Waters gone is because they personally want a more “Park like Setting”.

Senator Dorothy Hukill and Representative Dennis Baxley are the Florida State representatives for the Ocala area. They are publicly elected officials who are paid to represent citizens in the Ocala Florida area.

Tell the top Florida Senate and House of Representative leaders how no one is listening to the people regarding Wild Waters and how Democracy is being violated.

Marion County Florida Commissioners refused to let people vote on keeping Wild Waters and they refused to take any action to save Wild Waters. They should therefore all be voted out of office by voting for their opponents when & if they seek re-election.
DETAILS: On May 6, 2014, a member of the Save Wild Waters Group took the petition to the Marion County Commissioners (all are Republicans) and asked them to make sure Wild Waters was preserved for citizens in Florida. They were also asked to put a referendum on the ballot so the people of Marion County Florida could vote on keeping Wild Waters.
The request to make sure Wild Waters was preserved and the request to put a referendum on the ballot so citizens could vote on keeping Wild Waters was ignored by Marion County Commissioner.
A letter was sent to each Marion County Commissioner on behalf of the over 3,000 people who signed the petition asking them to stand up for the people in Marion County and make sure Wild Waters was preserved.
ALL of the Marion County Commissioners ignored the letter and they took no action to represent the wishes of the citizens they are supposed to serve.
Since Wild Waters is owned by the State of Florida, Florida citizens owns Wild Waters. State Officials should respect citizen’s wishes to keep this Water Park in our community and we should be entitled to a vote.

The Star Banner article “Wild Waters days are numbered” stated “County Commissioner Stan McClain, a member of the task force and the commission’s main champion for refocusing the facility toward ecotourism as a way to help the springs and create jobs, said the plan has provided a framework for accomplishing the county’s objectives”.
That statement indicates that Mr. McClain represented the wishes of 5 people, the Marion County Commissioners, not the citizens of Marion County. Therefore, Mr. McClain failed to represent citizens wishes as a member of the Silver Springs Advisory Group.
In June, 2014, a member of the Save Wild Waters Group asked Mr. McClain in a letter, in view of the fact that over 3,000 people signed a petition to save Wild Waters if he would change his mind about supporting plans to have Wild Waters demolished in 3 – 5 years.
Mr. McClain stated that he would not support any plans which include saving Wild Waters stating cost to taxpayers as a reason. That proves that his mind was made up and he was not representing citizen’s wishes as a member of the Silver Springs Advisory Group.
Also, the statement he made regarding cost to taxpayers is an invalid excuse because “taxpayers” signed the petition and stated they want Wild Waters to be preserved.
